Adults (age 18-24) in the state of Texas must complete a 6 hour Theory Course along with a Road Test. Adults over the age of 25 are required to pass the written test and the in-car Road test. We highly recommend combining the theory requirement with in-car driver training, this will better prepare you for the Road Test. Austin Driving School offers the 6 hour adult course on and offline with convenient locations in your neighborhood.
Adults between the age of 18 and 24 will receive a certificate after completing the 6 hour adult course. After turning the certificate into the DPS you will then receive your Drivers Permit.
Adults 25 years and older can also take the 6 hour adult course with us to receive their permit or can take the written test at the DPS.

You will only become a skilled and safe driver through several hours of practice behind the wheel with a professional driving instructor, or you can choose to learn from another licensed driver over the age of 21. Be sure to pick a program that is certified and certain to deliver the content and material you need to drive safely.
Avoid the hassle of taking your driving test at the DPS office. Austin Driving School is certified to offer the official DPS Authorized Road Test at our many convenient locations. Get your license in familiar surroundings with a patient examiner! Whether you take your DPS Authorized Road Test with us or choose to wait to take it with the DPS, you will first need to take the one-hour online IMPACT course.
If you take your Driving Test with us, we will provide you with a sealed envelope containing your test scores. Take this envelope to the DPS to receive your new drivers license.
